Sticking to their usual plan, Ajinkya Rahane and Ruturaj Gaikwad kicked off the batting for Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. They did a solid job in the beginning, scoring 55 runs in the first 6 overs. But things slowed down a bit after that, which made Ajinkya Rahane feel the heat. Eventually, Harpreet Brar got the better of Rahane, sending him back to the pavilion for 29 runs off 24 balls.

More problems came knocking for CSK when Shivam Dube got out without scoring any runs in the following over, known as a golden duck. Shortly after, Ravindra Jadeja was also dismissed by Liam Livingstone after just scoring 2 runs off 4 balls.

As the match progressed, Chennai Super Kings found it tough to keep up the scoring pace. By the end of the 15th over, they had only reached about the 100-run mark. Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain, was playing cautiously to save wickets, while Sameer Rizvi was having a hard time scoring runs on the other end. Kagiso Rabada finally ended Rizvi’s slow innings in the 16th over, dismissing him after he had scored 21 runs off 23 balls.

Later on, Chennai Super Kings were able to reach a total of 162/7 by the end of their 20 overs, mainly due to the strong finish by captain Gaikwad and Moeen Ali.

In response, Punjab Kings, missing Shikhar Dhawan once more, chose Prabhsimran Singh and Jonny Bairstow as their opening pair. Unfortunately, Prabhsimran Singh got out in the 3rd over while trying to take on debutant Richard Gleeson, and ended up giving a catch straight to Ruturaj Gaikwad near the 30-yard cover area.

Riley, Rossouw, and Jonny Bairstow all played aggressive innings in their 40s, helping Punjab Kings keep up with the required run rate throughout the chase. Shashank Singh and captain Sam Curran ensured there were no stumbling blocks, guiding PBKS to a smooth 7-wicket win over CSK with 13 balls left to spare.
